Perspectives on the Death Penalty
January 28, 2003
The Unitarian Universalist movement has long been concerned with the
issue of capital punishment. We offer you a variety of approaches to
this important social justice issue.
History
The story of Charles Spear (1803-1863), who took up the idea of abolishing
the death penalty at a time when the idea was widely regarded as a hopelessly
impractical, even utopian notion. His long, unremitting and sacrificial
efforts had their longed for effect. Application of the death penalty
did come to be greatly restricted by law and custom. http://www.uua.org/uuhs/duub/articles/charlesspear.html
Personal Experience
This workshop presentation from the UU general Assembly 2001, entitled
