October 2005
from Iris Hardin

During my first year with the CLF, my role has expanded to include not only Membership Administrator duties but also Quest Publication Manager responsibilities. I work 24 hours per week.

Membership Administration

  • I answer all mail sent to the CLF mailbox, some of which requires research, some of which requires forwarding to other staff. These messages include membership applications, inquiries about what the CLF is, questions about our Prison Pen Pals program, general theology questions, inquiries about other CLFers in remote parts of the US or world, questions about religious education, etc. I answer as many of these messages as I can personally and pass along those that I can or should not handle myself.
  • I perform or delegate the following tasks: process new CLF/CYF member applications, discontinue members who no longer wish to affiliate as CLF members, update member information in the UUA database
  • I participate in the “phone ministry” of the church.
  • I have streamlined significantly the entire membership process over the course of this year, reducing dramatically the amount of paper we produce and save and the amount of time we spend per application. It is also much easier to track retention of Trial members.

Quest Publication Management

In my role as Quest Production Manager I produce a monthly calendar/schedule of where we are and should be with the 3 issues that are always in the pipeline, reminding the Editor and other Quest team members what they should be reading, writing, and editing at any particular time. I run our monthly meeting and, secure permissions from our authors and publishers, and perform other miscellaneous tasks associated with Quest that come up each month.

Miscellaneous Projects

This year, I worked closely with Rev. Kathy Reis to expand our Prison Program by introducing a new way for non-CLF members to participate in the Pen Pal Program. Also, I put in place an online mechanism for people to sign up for prisoner pen pals.
