2004 Report of the Membership Coordinator
April marks my sixth month on the staff of the CLF. I have
thoroughly enjoyed working here, and it serves as the perfect
complement to my parish ministry internship in Needham. As
"membership coordinator" I do several things in
conjunction with Amber Beland, our membership administrator.
After Amber enters new and trial members' names and information
into our database, I create welcome letters for them. These
are basically form letters, but I do my best to personalize
them when new members have specific concerns or interests
that they mention in their new member questionnaires. Another
aspect of my job is public relations and advertising. I track
the deadlines for over a dozen publications in which the CLF
can be publicized, and I develop ad copy or informal press
releases, depending on the publication. I recently assisted
with a direct mailing to over 300 small congregations about
Church-on-Loan and Church-on-Line. And finally, during the
remaining portion of my 10 hours/week, I do "odd jobs"
for the CLF, which Lorraine and Jane assign based on my skills
and the CLF's needs. These odd jobs include grantwriting,
which I did for the CLF as an independent contractor before
I joined the payroll. I recently sent off four grant applications:
one to the UU Funding Panel for renewed support for the Prison
Project (pending), another to the Universalist Sunday School
Trust for our RE curriculum revision (funded), another to
the New York State Convention of Universalists for our Church-on-Loan
program (funded), and one to request additional funds from
the Unitarian Sunday School Society for RE curriculum revision
(pending). I enjoy my work for the CLF, and look forward to
meeting you when the staff dine with the board on Friday.
