2004 Report of the Librarian/Asst. Administrator

This is a description of what I do as a part-time (20 hour) worker.

Giovanna SpadaroAlthough I have always considered my main role at CLF as librarian, my responsibilities run in every direction. I coordinate the Church On Loan program (in all its stages). I open and distribute all mail on a daily basis and I also get out all the “special” Quest requests. This would include my making audiotapes on a monthly basis for the fifteen blind or disabled members of the CLF (and the number is growing as the program is more publicized).

My library role is to make sure individual members and church groups (via a contact person) get the materials they need when they need them in as timely a fashion as I can. Requests come in all ways – email, phone, regular mail, and sometimes in written requests stuck into returned materials or on pledge envelopes! The Library requests have picked up considerably in the last 6 months and I am finding more and more requests for curriculum (both adult and children). There is also an increased interest in historic books. Some of the most popular loan are “We Believe,” “Building Your Own Theology,” and “Old Tales for A New Day.”

The workload here at CLF has doubled in the last year. Within the prison ministry, I serve as the liaison between the free world pen pals and the prisoners (close to 60 prisoners now use our pen pal program), as well as send out about 10 inquiry packets a week (in lieu of 2 every 2 weeks). We have a minimum of 4 new prisoner members weekly. The program is doing well and we get constant letters from prisoners thanking us for the program and some of them have expressed interest in forming “small groups” within the prison.

New member packets have also doubled. We send out new member packets to about 50 new individuals a month. I assembly, Xerox, and put together all new member packets before I mail them out. Approximately two full days a month are spent on this process.

I route meditation manuals and tapes to volunteers who wish to read for Clf. I fulfill all service order covers and note card requests. I order new supplies. I file and doing weekly check ins of library material. I send out COL renewal forms.
