Year 2
2: First quarter, October through December
Age range: 6 to 9, centered on approximately age 7
Topic: Unitarian Universalist Identity
10 sessions in the topic area; plus one seasonal session, one session
on Christmas, and one week off.
Sessions in topic area:
We Believe (complete session plans and workbook designed for
families and tiny church schools), eight sessions:
- Inherent worth: What does it mean?
- Fair to everyone
- Inner peace
- Teachers and learners
- Deciding together
- It’s a small world
- Who owns the earth?
Three sessions are based on stories in the UU Kids Book. Use
the stories below with the basic session plan
from CLF Religious Education in the Home.

Seasonal session:
Choose one holiday from CLF's Cycle of Seasons that has special
meaning to your family, and celebrate it together as a family
OR
Celebrate the solstice using a celebration from Starhawk's Circle
Round.
Christmas session:
Celebrate Christmas together as a family. If you are going to use Special
Times for Quarter 2, you may want to use Session 13 A Time For Joy
To Be Born-Christmas Eve.

2: Second quarter, January through March
Age range: 6-9, centered on approximately age 7
Topic: Our Jewish and Christian heritage
10 sessions in the topic area; plus one seasonal session, one session
on Easter, and one week off.
Sessions in topic area:
Ten sessions from Special Times: Honoring Our Jewish and Christian
Heritages. These sessions are designed for groups of children. However,
each session plan includes an introductory focusing time, a story with
guide for conversation, and a song, all of which are useable with one
or two children. Activities designed for groups of children can be adapted
for use with one or two children if adults participate too.
The last seven sessions should be scheduled as near as possible to
the holidays they are about. Dates for some moveable holidays can be
found in CLF's Cycle of Seasons.

off.

Topic: Social justice -- environmental awareness
9 sessions in the topic area; plus one seasonal session, two weeks
off, and one annual session of evaluation (and assessment) in mid-September.
Sessions in the topic area:
There are two options for this quarter.
One option is Experiencing the Web of Life, as a continuation
from Year 1, Fourth Quarter. The suggested sessions are:

A second option is Dr. Seuss and Unitarian Universalists. However,
the CLF does not have a supply of the books and the stories themselves
are not included in the session plans for copyright reasons. The session
plans are available through CLF or on line at http://www.hzmre.com/seuss/.
