Need Help with Music?

Be sure to check the music resources available to CLF members from the CLF Loan Library.

Every group should have the Unitarian Universalist hymnals—your first and best investment for music and worship planning. Both are available at the UUA Bookstore.

• Singing the Living Tradition is Unitarian Universalism's hymnbook—hymns, songs and readings from around the world. "Pew Edition" 415 hymns and songs and 317 readings. (UUA) 1993. 704 pp. ISBN 1-55896-260-3. Hardcover (also available in large print)
   
• Singing the Journey—This 75-song supplement presents an exceptional variety of music for congregational singing. (UUA) 2005. 184 pp. Hear samples of some of the hymns. You'll hear accompaniment only—no voices.

Copies of Singing the Living Tradition and Singing the Journey are also available to borrow from the CLF Library.

• There is a group called the Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network (UUMN). You might enjoy poking around their website.
   
• UUMN District Liaisons facilitate music and UUMN activities on a regional level.
   
• UUMN has a Mentor Program for congregations with little or no music program or for UU Music Directors without a background in Unitarian Universalism.
   
• UUMN also has a publication titled, “Staffing a Music Program in UU Congregations” which may be of some help.
   
• The UUMN does offer a congregational membership , which allows a congregation-appointed representative to UUMN. Many smaller and lay-led congregations have taken advantage of this option.
