Although many of the practices that are associated with Christmas (like Christmas trees) come from pre-Christian traditions, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, the man whom many Christians believe was the only son of God.

Stories about the birth of Jesus appear in the gospels of Matthew (chapter 1, verse 18 through chapter 2) and of Luke (chapter 2, verses 1 through 20). You can find the Bible online at http://www.devotions.net/bible/00bible.htm.
