Celebrate Posada
A Mexican Tradition
For the children of Mexico, the most exciting celebration of the Christmas
season is not Christmas Day, but rather the nine evenings leading up
to Christmas-the Festival of Posadas. "Posada" means shelter,
inn or lodging and the nine-day festival is a reenactment of Mary and
Joseph's search for shelter on their way to Bethlehem
After reading the description of the Posada festival, perhaps you and
your family could plan a similar celebration in your neighborhood or
with nearby friends. The ideas for making clay figures for the nativity
scene and a pinata come from Brotman-Marshfield's Holidays and Holy
Days, which is available from the CLF Loan Library.
